Elta Announces Launch of Revolutionary SCC Fan
By Elta
13 May 2013
Elta has added yet another product to its ‘Elta Select’ range. The newly launched Viper SCC (UK patent application number 1211017.7) is a revolutionary duct-mounted, centrifugal fan which produces high pressure even with low volumes. The fan is described as ideally suited for installation in sports and leisure facilities, schools, colleges, retail centres, factories and similar duct-mounted installations.
The ErP Directive came into force on 1 January, 2013, replacing the Eco-Design Directive EuP (Energy-using Products). The Directive is being adopted as a series of ‘lots’, with the lot to address centrifugal fans currently out for comment and not yet adopted. However, in line with Elta’s commitment to employing the Best Available Technology and constantly evolving their range of products, the Viper SCC has been designed with the impending legislation very much in mind.
The Viper SCC range comprises eight standard sizes from 250 to 630mm, all of which carry a 12 month warranty. The range continues the recent developments of fans designed by Elta that incorporate motors and centrifugal Vpro impellers by Ziehl-Abegg, one of the world’s most respected electric motor and fan manufacturers. The highly efficient, lightweight external rotor motors (available in EC or AC options as standard) are designed to provide high-performance characteristics.
AC motors produce air volume rates of up to 1.16 m3/s with static pressure of up to 520 Pa – and EC motors produce up to 1.73 m3/s with static pressure of up to 850 Pa. With sealed for life bearings, the motors are insulated to Class F and weatherproofed (sizes 250-350mm to IP44 and sizes 400-630mm to IP54.) All have integral thermal overload protection and are suitable for use with a speed controller. Driven directly by the motor to provide a smooth airflow through the unit, the high efficiency, low tonal noise, backward curved, centrifugal impellers are dynamically balanced to grade 6.3. They are suitable for use in operating temperatures up to +60°C.
To provide a long lasting and robust construction, the Viper units have all metal casings and guards built from mild steel, which are treated to ensure full corrosion protection. Fan casings have a powder coated, polyester, epoxy paint finish in pastel beige (RAL 7032) and the guard in black (RAL 9005). Units are designed and manufactured in accordance with procedures as defined in BS EN ISO 9001: 2008 and tested to ISO 5801: 2007 (airside performance) and BS 848 Part 2: 1985 (sound performance).
The Viper SCC is one of a number of new products featured in the brand new Elta Select 2013 Product Guide. At 528 pages, this comprehensive guide to Elta’s fans, ventilation products and accessories, offers all the information required to specify with confidence products that comply with the latest developments in legislation.
The guide includes a wealth of information, including how to select a fan; the different installation categories; details of the new legislation; and, importantly, an explanation of the new product labels which are required under the new legislation to ensure it is easy to identify that products meet the specified criteria.
